All of my friends are dead.
Well no, not really, but it certainly feels like that on the internet these days. The blogs I used to frequent are either gone or sit un-updated collecting dust. Favour has turned from the personal niche of websites to the money making likes of Instagram and Patreon. I won’t pay money to read someones diary, it seems wrong somehow, and yet that’s what the internet has become hasn’t it? Just another way to make money.
I miss the days before TikTok and Substack. I miss the days where people used to share their photos and favourite finds without expecting me to pay a salary to them for doing so. And yes, I appreciate that everyone needs to earn money somehow, but when I first ventured onto the World Wide Web we did this for fun alongside our day jobs.
The blogging world used to be a place where we made connections. It used to be a place where friends from across the globe forayed into each others’ lives and shared photographs and stories together. Now it’s a place to sell brands and products. It’s not fun anymore.
Maybe I’m just old now.
I miss the days of joining like cliques (I think that’s what they were called??) where you could join and see other blogs. The old days of actually blogging and commenting on posts and then making friends š
I compleately get what you mean and I share your same feelings on the internet nowadays! Your blog looks such a cosy little space and I found you via Karin’s one…like in the good old days š
